  • Bad trend. Remember. A woman can never embarrass you. Just like a chair can’t embarrass you, or a tree can’t embarrass you. We are both in this world but we are not playing the same game. Women are just part of nature. they can’t hurt your feelings anymore than a bird can. You are on a journey.

  • Man flirting with woman meme

  • Esther Perel: “That’s the big secret of women’s sexuality—it is massively narcissistic.”

  • I don’t lift because I care about my health

  • He who controls your political theory controls your sense of agency. A corollary: you are only ever as agentic as your political theory says is the upper bound of rational agency. Don’t hand over your agency just like that. It’s a mistake. It’s really yours to keep. Own it.

  • Maybe the most important thing you learn by attending public school is that we are all at the mercy of the bottom quintile. The rules you follow in life will be based on the behavior of the bottom quintile, the taxes you pay are to support the bottom quintile, the greatest risks to your life and property will come from the bottom quintile, the dearth of comfortable public spaces is because you have to allow the bottom quintile to be there, our zoning laws are developed for fear of the bottom quintile. Probably best to learn and accept this early.

  • Someone will make $10M+ in 2025 just by rebuilding existing mobile apps. Here’s the exact playbook they’ll use (save this): 1) Find apps people already pay for but hate using I use Sensor Tower to find apps making $50-200k MRR in stable categories - things like productivity

  • I watched this film last year, “Nanook of the North”, which was basically a 1920s natgeo documentary of the Inuit and how they lived The average human made retarded and complacent by modern amenities will look at environmental hardship with fear and confusion. The end goal for most people is just increasing the real estate of comfort in their lives. So when they see a group people actually happy in an objectively less comfortable circumstance they become frightened, their very existence under fire The inuit children have the self-agency and autonomy of grown adult men. It’s crazy. And the adults act like children with joie de vivre. It was hard to find any parallels of their dynamic in our society. Whereas children are solely dependent on adults nowadays, it seemed like a two-way street with these people. To me, it’s very obvious that they derive meaning out of very different things that shanks would find difficult to understand I think a lot of people can learn from the old inuit way of living

  • In the treasure-vaults of Til Iosophrang rests the Whispering Earring, buried deep beneath a heap of gold where it can do no further harm.

  • The fact that there aren’t high and low languages in most places in modern times is actually abnormal. Historically, the courts, priests, or whoever was in charge would have their own languages as a method of control.

  • Europeans will be like “America is so crass & materialistic”— but Americans are not so much materialistic as they are “antimaterialistic” in the sense that they truly believe in “mind over matter”— Americans believe they can develop telekinesis, can alter reality by dreaming, etc

  • “Humans seem to be evolutionarily predisposed to falling intensely into passionate love and maintaining long lasting romantic pair-bonds…Feelings of euphoria, pleasure, arousal, compulsion, and addiction are dramatically increased by a romantic/passionate attraction”

  • a lot of smart people are very hard to predict (in terms of their ideas) but VERY easy to predict (in terms of their emotions) ?

  • Back in New York and all the men are gay Straight men? Gay Gay men? Slightly gayer, not by much

  • What on earth. What is this. I like my science facts tidy and fun, not disturbing and weird. wormhole image – wormhole connections in the space time continuum (Klein 1982)

  • I LOVE smoking with paranoid bitches like yes girl they are coming but we are stronger!!!

  • had a dream that @tasshinfogleman said “the ancients believed that talents weren’t innate qualities only certain people possessed, but impersonal entities anyone could summon to their aid. so you can do anything that any human has ever been able to do”

  • I process most of my emotions through writing, so I have like, books-worth of letters, short stories, poems, journal entries. I send much of it to my gf; she reads every word. Pages & pages. Like it’s her thesis, pulls out themes, shares her favourite parts, calls me to discuss

  • Women need to feel like you’re off hunting

  • Tyler Cowen has an old talk where he warns that depending on explanatory stories with villains in them lowers your IQ by 15 points. Marxism is like an institutional commitment to that. It lowers your IQ by 50 points.

  • As a man: “We’re pregnant” - Cringe - Pathetic - Taking half the credit “My wife is pregnant”: - Classic - Married? Good so it’s not a sin “I’m pregnant”: - Intriguing - Preserves your partner’s privacy - Taking all the credit

  • when people say “normal”, they just mean “consensus weird”

  • it’s fascinating to me that people struggle to imagine meaningful things other than kids or travel. the obvious answer to me is ‘community service’, and there are 1000s of ways you could define that. you could mentor kids. you could host dinner parties. someone near u needs help!

  • being “cool” is just liking weird shit unapologetically

  • this site is like early days UFC, but for intellectual traditions you just wake up one day and realize that ten years of aikido doesn’t actually work against a guy with a heavy bag in his garage

  • Some of the worst cases of PTSD you will ever see are not from external trauma, but from self-inflicted moral injury. That is, people who have behaved so shamefully that they can’t face the person they’ve become, but also can’t accept the loss of their innocent self-image.

  • One of the weirder inversions is that urban people today have more space to exist in than rural people. You have an entire city to walk around in. Rurals, unless they personally own the land, are surrounded by private land they can’t walk on.

  • Is the natural state of soul quiet or chaos?

  • I think Elon is basically a precocious boy-king in his mind, so identifying as Gandalf would be incongruous with his self-concept. He’d be likelier to see himself as say, Aragorn facing the Nazgûl

  • a lot of unhappy marriages are situationships. In my frame, they aren’t true relationships. the spouses have stopped relating to each other. there is no more meaningful exchange. they are simply coexisting in the same situation

  • i know this is just one video, but it truly is emblematic of what it’s like to be a man the women in your life will tell you to “open up more” and “show your emotions” and the very first time you muster the strength to actually do so, they will respond with such utter contempt it forces you to reconsider every emotion you’ve ever felt and do not read this as some incel, woman-hating, “men need to be alpha males” bs post. i’ve had plenty of amazing, loving relationships with women in my life. my mother raised me well. this is not a slight on women. this is more of societal critique than anything. men have a natural instinct to display strength and emotional resolve. this is normal and good, i think. but yes, we are also emotional creatures. we just don’t show that outwardly very often — but when we DO, ladies…ladies, you must understand how important these moments are. one wrong move and you’ve shattered your man’s ability to go there with you, to go to those emotional depths. we closely guard these depths. and in the rare instance we choose to let you see them, you need to act wisely. let this be a cautionary tale.

  • adderall girl

  • “aww you remembered” of course I did , I am a manipulator

  • Viktor Frankl: lots of people don’t need therapy, they just need to make a practical change, e.g. different job.

  • Straight twinks are the most oppressed group in modern society. The only people who love us are beautiful women.

  • Biological evolution can’t make a wheel. Human minds could never design a cell. Blind and intentional search processes have different strengths and weaknesses. Intentional processes can cross gaps in design-space, but blind processes have no complexity limit.

  • Modernity is so, irresistibly romantic when you consider how connected it is to the past. There is no new, only different iterations of old. Every modern struggle, every innovation. It’s all cyclical. The romance is here, right now. It has simply yet to acquire its patina.

  • Every time Stephen Fry comes up I think about this tweet from the day the Queen died

  • People say stuff like, “I would never cheat” and then they go have an affair. But what if, instead, those people thought, “I’m capable of cheating. How and why would I do that?”

  • You think some abonimation sealed for 3000 years has somehow developed an immunity to a weapon it cannot even fathom. Sorry bud, we are the horrors beyond comprehension.

  • “If it were safe, it wouldn’t be heroic; if it were predictable, it wouldn’t be an adventure. Even if your heroic exploits prove to be more uncomfortable or painful than you expected…it is called a hero’s journey for a reason.”

  • these two memes explain 100% of life I don’t have time to explain

  • love you to bits and pieces and shards and debris and lint and fractions

  • so @strangers_gate told me about this cool idea for family gatherings: everyone brings 10 photos from their year. then one by one each person shares their photos and talk about each one i thought this was a really sweet way to commune and catch up

  • Rituals are necessary because they make continuous change (eg biological) discrete (eg social). Lack of rituals is why you have people who technically are adults but who don’t feel like it. Hence being an adult becomes a self-conscious performance: “adulting"
